Fever 85, Mystics 83: Caitlin Clark's seven 3-pointers and late free throws lead Fever past winless Mystics

Indiana secures second Commissioners Cup victory

WASHINGTON -- Caitlin Clark became the second rookie in WNBA history to score seven three-pointers in a game and equaled a career-high 30 points in the league on a night when the Indiana Fever hung on to keep the Washington Mystics winless.

Fever extend lead over Mystics

The Fever were up 82-79 when NaLyssa Smith was called for a clear path foul with just over a minute left in the game. That foul could have been a game-changer, but Clark calmly sank both free throws to put Indiana up by five.

Washington had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer in the final seconds, but Ariel Atkins' shot was off the mark. The Fever secured the rebound and Clark was fouled again. She made one of two free throws to seal the victory.

Clark's performance was a major bright spot for the Fever, who improved to 2-1 in the Commissioners Cup standings. The Mystics, meanwhile, fell to 0-3.

The Fever came out firing in the first quarter, hitting four three-pointers to take an early lead. Clark had two of those threes, while Aliyah Boston and Erica Wheeler each added one.

The Mystics struggled to keep up from beyond the arc, making just one three-pointer in the first quarter. Elena Delle Donne led the way for Washington with seven points, but she was also held to just 2-of-8 shooting from the field.

Fever hang on to keep Mystics winless

The Mystics made a run in the second quarter, cutting the Fever's lead to just three points at one point. But Indiana answered back with a 6-0 run to take a 42-32 lead into halftime.

The Fever maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, but the Mystics never went away. Washington cut the lead to just four points with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

But Clark's late free throws proved to be too much for the Mystics to overcome.
